Ilam Trekking

Trip Overview

Ilam, a hilly district situated in the far eastern Nepal, is divided into 48 Village Development Committees (VDCs) and one municipality. This district is fully covered by hills except some parts of inner Terai. The district covered by pleasant natural geo-structure, temperate climate, low green hills and fertile lands, has been made prosperous by the hard work of the farmers.

The district is famous for tea and six ‘As’ – aalu (potato), alaichi (cardamom), aduwaa (ginger), akabare khursani (red round chilly), olan (milk) and amliso (a grass from which brooms are made, Thysanalaena). This district is proceeding towards modern agricultural business from the traditional cereal farming. Among the six ‘As’, potato, ginger, cardamom, red round chilly and amliso are exported to Siliguri and Darjeeling in India whereas milk is taken to Kathmandu via Biratnagar and Tea is exported to foreign countries. Ilam is inhabited by the people from various sects and ethnic group and is an interface of different cultures and religions. Ilam has exciting natural green hills covered with tea plantation and forest, diverse climate, simple living style and houses depicting its own arts and unique style. The following touristic places with panoramic view are eager to welcome guests.

Day to Day Itinerary

Day 01 Kathmandu (1300m). Arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA). Upon arrival, our representatives will receive us and then transfer to hotel.

Day 02 Kathmandu – Bhaktapur – Nagarkot. We spend full day for sightseeing in Kathmandu. After having breakfast in the hotel, we go to visit Pashupatinath temple and then to Baudanath. We will have lunch at Baudanath. After lunch, we go to Swayambhu and then to Krishnatemple at Patan. Finally, we go to Nagarkot via. Bhaktapur. In the evening, we woul enjoy beautiful sunset view from the resort at Nagarkot.

Day 03 Nagarkot – Kathmandu-Bhadrapur–Illam. Having viewed the beautiful sunrise view at Nagarkot, we drive to TIA and take our flight to Bhadrapur, or we can drive directly to Illam from Kathmandu. It would be our pleasure to observe stunning green teagardens on the way. We would take tea break and snacks at Fikkal. In the evening, we would go around Illam Bazaar. Overnight in a hotel.

Day 04 Illam Bazaar – Maipokhari – Illam Bazaar. We take our early drive to Maipokhari from Illam Bazaar. It is a distance of one and half hour normal drive. We observe Maipokhari area for 2-3 hours. We would taste fresh home made tea at Maipokhari. Besides, we will also visit tea factory on the way to Illam Bazaar. Overnight in the hotel.

Day 05 Illam Bazaar- Shree Antu. We go early in the morning to view stunning sunrise from Antu Dada. We will also pay our visit to Lepcha museum at Antu Dada. Besides, we would interact with the local people to have in depth knowledge of the local culture and tradition.

Day 06 Shree Antu – Bhadrapur or Shree Antu – Kathmandu. After having breakfast at Shree Antu, we drive down to Bhadrapur if we are flying to kathmandu. If we are driving to Kathmandu, we take early bus from Shree Antu to Kathmandu. Upon arrival in Kathmandu, we will go to hotel. Overnight in the hotel.

Day 07 Kathmandu – Dhulikhel. Having breakfast in the hotel, we drive to Dhulikhel. Lunch will be served in a hotel at Dhulikhel. We go for short trek or hike around Dhulikhel. Overnight in a hotel at Dhulikhel.

Day 08 Dhulikhel – Kathmandu. We take our early drive to Kathmandu from Dhulikhel after having breakfast at Dhulikhel. Lunch will be served in Kathmandu. In the afternoon, we would go for shopping. Farewell dinner will be served in the evening.

Day 09 Back home destination.
